Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet arrangement of the previous albums. It was a more powerful, consistent effort that had a harder edge than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's increased proficiency on the drums, as well as a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was more refined, sharper and less cloying than on previous efforts.
