The Lightest, Most Compact and Easiest to Fold Travel Strollers

This stroller is one of the lightest and compact. It's also among the easiest folding pram strollers. Despite its size, it offers a good ride, great sun canopy and multi-position recline.

For less than $100 the stroller is an excellent value. It's lightweight and easy to fold, making it ideal for public transport or to carry over your shoulder.

1. Lightweight

The key to a good prams travel stroller is to be lightweight and easy to fold. The most popular models we tested can fold with just one hand and sometimes with two and can be tucked into overhead compartments for luggage. They are also compact and roll well, making them easy to maneuver into tight spaces. Some models have a telescoping handle for parents with different heights. We tested nine strollers that met our minimum size and weight requirements. Each model was tested on city streets as well as on country side walks and at the airport terminal to assess its maneuverability, the ease of carrying and folding as well as overall comfort for children.

Our top pick is the Babyzen YoYo2 (320) that folds the most easily of the strollers we tested, and is able to fit into the overhead bins of planes. The tri-fold is the most recent stroller for travel. It folds down into three pieces and provides the best combination between compactness and features. The UPPAbaby Miniu, for instance, comes with a reversible chair and a storage compartment that is unstructured on the rear, and a lockable latch that keeps it folded. It's slightly larger than the umbrella models of the brand however, it folds smaller than its G-Luxe and G-Link counterparts and has a carry strap with padding that can be slung over your shoulder.

3. Easy to store

The best travel strollers can be folded down to a compact size that is easy to store. They can easily be tucked away in the trunk of a car or the overhead bin of an airplane. Some models even come with a carrying strap that is easy to sling over your shoulder and you don't have to worry about your hands getting tired. They're also lighter than regular strollers. This makes them easy to lift and carry for a stroll in the neighborhood or at the airport.

This stroller performed exceptionally excellently in our durability tests and was easy to maneuver over all kinds of surfaces. From smooth hardwoods to shag flooring, this stroller is an excellent option. The size of the storage basket is also something to consider. It is on the small side and some parents have found it difficult to squeeze a large size diaper bag inside it.

We recommend that you call your airline in advance to verify their specific guidelines regarding strollers. These can vary. This is especially important if you wish to gate-check your stroller and allow you to travel around the airport without it and use it when you're on the plane (though that option won't work for families who need an infant car seat or booster).

If you're looking to purchase a straightforward stroller that is lightweight and folds down to an extremely compact size, the Contours Itsy is a great choice. The Contours Itsy comes almost fully assembled, and all you have to do is attach the bumper bar. It has a parent cup holder and a back pocket, but no oversized basket, which could make it difficult to carry essentials for long trips.

If you're frequent travelers, we suggest you look into a more robust stroller with better features and the ability to hold more cargo. The UPPAbaby Mini, as an example has many of its G-Luxe and G-Link siblings' features, but is more compact travel pram and folds faster. It's also slightly more durable than an umbrella stroller, and comes with a cushioned strap to help lift some of the burden off your shoulders.

4. Confortable

Strollers are often used for prolonged periods of time when traveling, so comfort is important. Look for seats with ample padding and a recline feature that allows you to position it at various angles. Take note of whether the canopy extends for sun protection, and if the mesh windows promote airflow. Consider a model that has a parent organizer/cupholder and a large basket under the seat, if you have to carry things with you. If you're in the market for a stroller for older children, make sure to check the age range and consider whether your child will be at ease in the seat, even without a car seat for infants.

It is also essential to think about how a stroller rolls. It should be able to move effortlessly over a variety of surfaces including smooth hardwoods, shag carpet to cobblestones and gravel. It must be able of handling curbs, stairs, and other obstacles with ease. If your plans for travel include lots of walking, choose a light stroller to prevent back and leg soreness.
