3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeler is perfect for off-roading and provides a smooth ride for your baby. They are also more convenient to move and push than a four-wheeler, particularly those with fabric sling seats or seat units that are placed snugly in the frame, offering the best lightweight 3 wheel stroller ergonomics and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled buggys are extremely stable, which makes them an ideal option for off-road walks (especially when they are equipped with a seat that is all-terrain or off-road). They often feature oversized front wheels, which can cope well with kerbs and bumps as well as rough terrain. Some models have a lockable wheel in the front to give you extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It's worth bearing in mind that 3 wheeled travel system-wheel buggies can have a lower centre of gravity than models with four wheels and this can mean that they topple over more easily. The most reliable 3 wheeler buggies-wheeled pushchairs are made with the best geometry to ensure they remain solid in all conditions. They should be able to turn at a whim and be easy to steer using one hand. They also have the ability to rotate 360o on the front wheel, which makes them ideal for maneuvering over difficult terrain.

Find models with pneumatic tyres. These are made to be able to navigate tracks that aren't paved and should be able to handle mud, gravel, rocks and more. Many all-terrain buggies feature an adjustable front wheel that can be locked to increase stability when dealing with extremely rough terrain too.

A 3-wheel pram is also a good option for runners or for those who like to walk quickly and uphill, particularly when you plan to attach an infant car seat or carrycot. Weight

If you're looking for a vehicle that can handle the tough terrain, you need one with large wheels. They are designed to tackle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks with ease while providing a smooth ride. They are also great for jogging, as they have a suspension built-in and are easy enough to climb up and down kerbs. However, they're quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy you can use on rough terrain (pictured above). The 3-wheel buggy comes with 16 rear wheels, and a lockable swivel front wheel, so it's very manoeuvrable. It comes with tyres filled with air that need to be pumped up every now and then. Another great option is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, that comes with an adjustable handlebar and a high-quality hood with 50+ UV protection. It's also simple to get up and down kerbs and fit in small car boots. It can be used as a stroller along with a carrycot for newborns or toddlers.

Sling seats made of fabric fit snugly within the buggie's frame, as opposed to on top of it like modular seats. This design has a lower centre of gravity at the perfect height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you should never overestimate how often you'll be doing that as new parents!)

Seating

The capacity for seating of 3 wheelers is impressive and there are many different options to pick from. For a newborn, there is the option to use the included carrycot (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cosy and comfortable lie flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy) and older infants and toddlers can sit in the parent or world-facing seat unit that is roomy and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. It's important to note that these seats aren't fully reclined however, they can be adjusted to the lowest setting that will still allow your child plenty of headroom and room to move around.

A sling made of fabric is also available. It is advantageous in that it is located within the frame, instead of being placed on top of it as a modular seat. This means that it has a lower centre of gravity with perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this type of seat dealt with obstacles.

This type of buggy comes with an extensive basket and other useful features, such as an hood that can be extended with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal, and a few innovative lights for visibility which can be put in front of occupants for improved safety on difficult terrain.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame makes a buggy more stable and stable to push with one hand, and it's also great for handling terrain that is difficult to navigate. The shopping basket is smaller than a four-wheeler.

A high-quality ATP will have a top suspension, pneumatic tyres, and padding for the handle for your ease. It should be able to accept a carrycot or car seat, which means you can use it right from birth.

MFM's reviewers have found that the 3-wheeler frame doesn't pass through all doors in their homes or small car boots - make sure you know the dimensions of the buggy when it's folded prior to purchasing in case you're concerned about space.

Find a 3 wheeled pushchair-wheeler that has 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best option for your future and can help you save money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most popular. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggy and then converted into twin buggies after your baby starts to walk.

Tyres

These tires cushion bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more enjoyable. You'll find these on pushchairs like the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to offer "an outstanding ride for my toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres make it easy to navigate kerbs and cobbles.

These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain and need to be topped up frequently. These tyres are more prone to punctures, and it is recommended to always carry an repair kit and spare inner tube with you when you're out and out and about.

PU tyres are typically used on pushchairs because they are less expensive than air-filled tyres, but they are just as durable. You can tell PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide on smooth and tidy surfaces.

If you rub your hands over the tyres, then you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it is sliding then it is a PU. You can also verify that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by slipping the tyres over flat, clean surfaces - they'll be able to roll easily and fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are typically used in high-performance buggies and joggers since they are able to cope with the rough terrain associated with this kind of pushchair. The drawback is that the foam may compress and make your buggy appear less stable because it loses its springy feel. Also, these kinds of tyres can frequently be noisy, as they generate lots of noise when you turn and navigate your way around the town.
